These discussion cards have been developed as a training tool to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers to recognise and respond to clients with mental illnesses and/or alcohol and other drug related issues.
The discussion cards can be used to encourage discussion within small groups on several topics:
- Types of loss
- Transgenerational trauma
- Supporting people through grief and loss
- The grief journey
- Helping clients through grief
- Worker self-care.
The discussion cards are part of a larger resource package that aims to increase workers' knowledge in four main areas:
- Drug and alcohol related issues
- Grief and loss issues
- Stability and referral approaches.
In addition to the discussion cards, the resource package also includes:
- A facilitator guide
- A participant guide
- Power point slides
- Case studies
- A mentor guide
- Assessment tools.
The resource package satisfies the skills and knowledge required for three units of competency in the HLT33207 Certificate III Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander primary health care qualification.
