NCETA’s position regarding receiving funding from, or working with industries that produce, promote and or sell harmful products

The National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA) are cognisant of the role of commercial activities as a determinant of health and that alcohol and tobacco companies continue to produce, distribute, and market harmful and toxic products are extremely detrimental to population health and create and maintain health inequities including among our First Nations People.

As a result of these commercial determinants of health, NCETA and its researchers will not engage with, work with, or accept funding from alcohol or tobacco industry and its affiliate organisations for research, advocacy, or other projects. Affiliated organisations include alcohol, tobacco or gambling industry-funded research organisations such as Drinkwise, the Global Action to End Smoking or NT Community Benefit Fund. We reserve the right to exclude alcohol, tobacco or gambling industry employees and affiliates from events such as seminars and webinars organised by NCETA.

NCETA may receive funding from agencies such as The SA Office for Problem Gambling, the NSW Office for Responsible Gambling or any equivalent state-based agencies whereby the funds for which were derived from hypothecation of gambling tax revenue for research purposes. NCETA will only enter into agreements with these agencies that allow publication of manuscripts without amendments from the funding body or inclusion of logos to maintain research integrity.
