Building Funding Application Skills
Background
The Building Funding Application Skills Project has been funded in response to the 2011/2012 Non-Government Organisation Treatment Grants Program (NGOTGP) drug and alcohol related funds and the Substance Misuse Service Delivery Grant Fund (SMSDGF) application rounds. These funding rounds highlighted the need to develop a package to support the alcohol and other drug non-government (AOD NGO) sector's response to grant procurement processes.
The National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA) was commissioned, on behalf of the peak bodies for the AOD NGO sector, to develop a comprehensive resource package which supports the AOD NGO sector in preparing funding applications and grant tenders. Funding has been provided by the Australian Government Department of Health.
Development of the Resource
To develop the resource, NCETA will conduct national consultations with AOD NGO service providers, peak drug and alcohol sector bodies in each state and territory, the Australian Government Department of Health, and other specialist organisations and individuals to ascertain expert advice and identify gaps and issues to be addressed in the resource packag. NCETA will pilot both a hard copy and electronic version of the resource with select organisations. The resource package will focus particularly on small to medium sized organisations and organisations with limited administrative and planning infrastructure, including Aboriginal controlled organisations and rural and remote services.
National Consultations with Key Stakeholders
Consultations will involve a three stage process:
- the development of an Expert Advisory Group (EAG) to guide the project. The EAG will be chaired by NCETA and will comprise NCETA staff, representatives from each of the state and territory peak non-government bodies, the National Indigenous Drug and Alcohol Committee (NIDAC), the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA) and the Australian Government Department of Health
- a brief online questionnaire using SurveyMonkeyTM to identify the type of information and advice that the AOD NGO sector want in relation to building their capacity to develop high quality grant applications, and
- consultations with key stakeholders in all Australian states and territories to identify expert advice, existing gaps in knowledge and experience, and issues relevant to particular groups and service providers. The consultation methodology will involve a combination of online submissions and face-to-face and telephone interviews with key stakeholders.

Online Questionnaire
An online questionnaire has been developed as part of the Project’s consultation process. This questionnaire aims to identify the NGO sector's current understanding and capacity to undertake grant processes, and obtain an understanding of which components of tender applications the NGO sector would like included in the resource.
It is suggested that ONLY ONE PERSON PER NGO ORGANISATION complete this questionnaire to represent the organisation's needs in their response.
The questionnaire will take approximately 10 – 15 minutes to complete.

Download the pdf version of the questionnaire if you wish to discuss responses with your team prior to submission.
Closing date: 5pm ACDT Friday 29 November 2013.
