AOD Education & Training
NCETA can provide alcohol and other drugs (AOD) knowledge and awareness training to your staff. Our foundation awareness training known as ABC of AOD training package provides participants with an understanding of the types of AOD in Australia and the problems that may be associated with their use - see more information on the right.
Other training packages can also be customised to suit your organisation’s needs.
Training packages can include any of the foundation topics, any of the following topics below or other specific AOD information:
- Pain and opioid dependence – preventing the development of dependence and helping patients with pain who are already opioid dependent.
- Harm reduction in the GP consult room with patients who don’t necessarily want to stop drinking or using
- Motivational interviewing skills in 90 minutes
- Managing alcohol dependence & withdrawal in the community
- Managing benzodiazepine dependence in the community
- AOD in older adults
About ABC of AOD Training
Our foundational AOD awareness training, called 'The ABC of AOD' is usually provided face-to-face for 3.5 hours to up to 20 people. It is co-presented by a researcher and a clinician. This training is priced at $6,300 (excl. GST and travel expenses).
The session covers the following topics:
- The various types of drugs and emerging drugs

Rates of consumption

Health impacts of consumption

Reasons people use alcohol and drugs

Alcohol and other drug dependence, the who and why

Stigma and the impact on help seeking

Strategies to reduce harms from alcohol and other drugs

Treatment options for people and their families affected by alcohol and other drug dependence
Following the training, participants should have an increased:

Awareness of drugs that are most commonly used in Australia

Understanding of why people first use and continue to use drugs and or alcohol
-
Understanding of stigma and the impacts it has on people seeking help
-
Knowledge of strategies and options available in South Australia to reduce an individuals harms from alcohol and drugs

Understanding of treatment options and interventions
